How do i get VideoReader to work on Ubuntu 17.04

Hi everyone, i want to get the VideoReader function to run, but i get constantly the following error message:

Error using VideoReader/init (line 601) Type HELP ASSERT for usage Error in VideoReader (line 171) obj.init(fileName);

I have tried most of the available solutions for this problem (e.g. installing GStreamer 0.10, renaming the libstdc, etc.) that i found, but none solved the problem for me.

Do you have any idea, what else i can try? Thank you very much.

What was the command that you used? Does the file exist? Are any extra inputs to VideoReader valid?

A = VideoReader(?, ?, ?)

it is simply A = VideoReader('FileName'). I can run the function on the 2017a MATLAB Version. I just can't get it to go on 2018a (Windows and Ubuntu btw.)

That's indeed odd if 2017a works and 2018a fails for the same video (and same computer?). Try

dbstop if error

and then run:

FileName = 'C:\User\Desktop\Data\YourVidName.avi');
A = VideoReader(FileName);

When you reach the error, the editor will open VideoReader m file, where you can debug what's going on.

It could also be a bug, since Mathworks did make some changes to VideoReader/Writer for faster speeds in 2018a.

The Versions are on different Computers, but its the same file, same lines of code, etc.

Unfortunately I don't get that far debugging, since I don't really get why the function has a problem with the mentioned lines of code.
