Image processing to reduce random noise

Similar to denoising on 1D data, random noise removal on images can be achieve by computing the running average in 2D. Write a 2D smoothing filter function with loops to compute the running average. The width and height of the 2D smoothing window should be designed as adjustable parameters.

Dear all, I am not quite sure how to start with this as I only know how to denoise 1D data.
