Interfacing with External Windows Application Window

Hello all,

I am trying to see if there is a way to grab hold of an external (not MATLAB) window, and execute keyboard commands to "click" a menu button ("File", "edit", etc..). I need to do this in MATLAB and programmatically.

So far I have not found anything pointing me in the right direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
