enumeration vs categorical ... what is best to use?

Does anyone have guidance on when it is best to use enumerations vs categoricals? Categoricals seems to be the best but I'm probably missing something ...

It depends on the task you want to use the variable for. Please mention, which problem you want to solve. Otehrwise it is hard to decide, which type is "better".
