How to convert fraction form to decimal form?

If I simply write
>>1.234
answer is
>>
ans =
1.234
But if I put
>>syms a
>>1.234*a
it gives me answer
>>
ans =
(2469*a)/2000
But I want this answer in decimal form.

I think you want to use the subs command.
