Hmax in GenerateMesh to be Different for x, y and z Directions?

I'm using the PDE Toolbox to solve a 3D elliptic problem in cartesian coordinates. The domain has an aspect ratio of about 40 and is a simple slab. The z-direction extends from 0 to 1 and the x and y directions extend from 0 to 40. I want Hmax to be roughly 0.1 in the z-direction and roughly 4.0 in the x and y directions. If I set Hmax to 0.1, obviously the mesh is too fine in the x/y directions and the code takes too long. I'm using Matlab 2019a. Can anyone suggest a solution?

This is possible, just not by meshing using the tools inside of MATLAB. You can use functions like geometryfrommesh to import a mesh made outside of MATLAB. Using tools like GMSH or Tetgen will give you complete control over your meshing parameters and optimisaton. The final mesh can then be imported to the toolbox and used to solve the solution.
