how to calculate percentile from ecdf values f and x

suppose i have

y = 0:10;
[f x] = ecdf(y);
plot(x,f);

then why does my x value corresponding to f = 0.5 is not equal to median(y).

because median, simply means half of total data points towards both side of median.
