MATLAB Live Editor and Help Documentation Slow Rendering

I'm running MATLAB on Ubunutu 18.04. For the past 3 weeks, MATLAB has been running fine. Suddenly, the Live Editor windows began lagging and rendering slowly. The Command Window and Regular Scripts run fine. I opened the Help Documentation (F1) and it too renders slowly. In both cases, e.g., if I maximize or minimize the window, there is a few seconds before it renders and black bars appear where the resized window should fill. I'm assuming that it has something to do with how Java renders UI. Please help. Thank you.
