MATLAB 8 w/Windows 8

How can I properly install MATLAB 8 (R2012b) on PC with Windows 8? setup.exe stops running after 2005 C++ redistributable window.

I know this is an old question, but I will answer what helped for me in case anyone else comes across this for help. Right click on the installer, and go to properties. From there, go to compatibility, and check "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 7". This should get it to work just fine, at least it did for me.
