Character Recognition

Does anyone know how to recognize the characters from an image?

Child have to write the letter using the hardware device(tablet) and we want to check the accuracy of the child whether he provided answer is correct... could you please help me how to do it using MATLAB?

In some cases, yes. There have been a large number of scientific papers written on the topic.

You would likely get more response if you posted a sample image or two on a web server such as tinypic, and posted the URL here.
