Matlab causing explorer to crash repeatedly on boot?

Howdy,

I've had a problem with my PC for a few months now where occasionally when the system boots, windows explorer crashes, then loads, then crashes, then loads. It's been driving me insane because sometimes it can take several minutes of the screen flashing while explorer keeps restarting every few seconds before I can use the computer.

Today it happened again and I noticed one of the drives (an SSD which is not the boot drive) had heavy activity, so I checked performance monitor and found most of the drive reads/writes were to the MATLAB install folder which is on that drive. I took a photo as copy/paste doesn't really work when explorer is constantly crashing...

In windows event viewer, I get 2 "information" logs and an "error" log everytime it crashes (copied below), but they don't refer to MATLAB, so maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree thinking MATLAB is the cause, though it now occurs to me that the problem roughly started when I upgraded to version R2020b of MATLAB. I'm running Windows 10 (Education version).

Any ideas? I've googled and can't find any explanation, so I don't know if anyone else is having this problem. Sometimes explorer crashing repeatedly on start up is caused by a faulty link or permission, but that didn't lead me to being able to fix it.
