Point density in an unstructured grid

G'day, I am trying to determine some measure of point density from an unstructured grid consisting of lat/long coordinates. I have been playing around with point counts etc but so far without a lot of success. I would appreciate any guidance.

Have a read here and here. It will greatly improve your chances of getting an answer.

Maybe accumarray will do something useful for you, but without your input data and a description of the output you would like it is hard to tell.
