How do I save a portion of an http mp3 bitstream of a radio broadcast in Matlab?

I'm trying to save 30 seconds of mp3 audio from the following http mp3 stream to a matlab variable, and then save the mp3.

http://radio.garden/api/ara/content/listen/tMGsmGxF/channel.mp3

I looked into webread, but it only downloads a file with a fixed duration, rather than a radio stream that is continuously broadcasting. Any ideas?

webread expects the response to be complete before it can process the data. So a workaround for processing streams froms the web is to delegate the work to Java which can be called from MATLAB. Have a look at this comment for further details.
