Get only selected text from a textbox in a gui

What I am trying to do to allow the user of a gui to select a word in a textbox phrase and replace only the selected word with a word from a listbox by double clicking the word in the listbox.

You need to work at the Java level to do that.
If I recall correctly, Yair has documented the (unsupported) methods that you would need to use, in his comprehensive http://undocumentedmatlab.com
