In distribution system, is D-STATCOM minimizes the power losses similar to capacitor placement?
I mean both devices are suppling reactive power

Yes D-STATCOM is placed like a capacitor to minimize the power. In programming also D-STATCOM replaced the capacitor because both of them just supplies reactive power but it is a fast responding devic.
