What is the maximal sample rate of the ADC of the ARDUINO MEGA 2560

Hello I tried to acquire an analog signal (sinusoidal shape with a frequency of 50Hz: A/2 + AxSin(wt)) using MATLAB/SIMULINK and an analog input pin of ARDUINO MEGA 2560. The model was run in external mode. Analog input sapling period = 0.0005 s However, the visualized signal does not match the original signal There some limitation in the sampling period of the ADC ? Thank you for your help
