Serious problem: MATLAB just crashed and emptied my Matlab script while also removing the back up file..

I was working on a script for a few hours in MATLAB R2016B. It was working fine, but I was having a few problems. First, I was unable to remove a .wav-file and had to dive into sync center to remove it. Then, when I was running the code, MATLAB froze and the next I saw when I restarted it in the editor was that the script was totally empty.
Luckily, I had the .asv-file as backup and could easily use this to recreate my script, but eventually it happened again, but this time the backup-file was also removed, yielding me nothing. The script was empty again meaning that I need to start all over again. Also, when I try to search for the name of the script in the folder by typing it in the search bar in file finder (Win 10), the file finder does not find the script while it is obvious there. Remarkably, the file size is still preserved (4kB).
I know that it would have been smart to make an extra backup, but I never expected it to happen again, while also removing the back-up. What could be causing this serious problem?

Did you enable the auto-saving of Matlab or the FileHistory of the operating system? Maybe the software Revuca can find the contents of the file or backup file on the disk.
Which Matlab version are you using?
