Is this okay to use multiple 2D images in "CNN with multiple channel", which is provided in matlab 2018a??

Right now, i am trying to apply CNN in 3D images (MRI data).

I am planning to use 3D images as (2D x z stacks) thus they are all grey scaled colored at different z axis.

My question is that is this okay to use multiple 2D images in "CNN with multiple channel", because my 2D images are not images with different colors but images with grey scaled color at different z axis.

Actually, i have tried this hagaygarty code but I kinda prefer 2D CNN, provided in matlab. But the problem is that i am not sure whether i can use CNN with multispectral channels in 2D images at multiple z stacks.
