Why in Simulink examples of the DC conveters, it starts with AC - DC conversion not direct DC source? How should it be replaced if DC source is used?

In examples of DC converters (dc(1-7)_example), we can find always that is starting from an AC-DC conversion first. But is that used? Also, if I want to replace with a dc source, how to find the value corresponding?
