How do I fix this jumping parse error?

At the end of a piece of script I'm writing i am attempting to set a variable. Despite this being really simple an error pops up saying, "Parse error at ']' might be invalid Matlab Syntax". There is another error on the same line which states, "Invalid syntax at '='possibly a ']' missing" despite there clearly being an end bracket there. These errors prevent the script from running, so I deleted the variable. The strangest part of this, though, is that the errors jump to the next variable in the script, which had been working perfectly well previously. Deleting or moving this variable just causes the error to jump again. Copying and pasting the script onto a new script, moving to a new computer, and downloading older versions of Matlab don't seem to solve the problem. Does anyone know what is happening here and how I can fix it?

The problem is not on that line: the problem is that the previous [ is not matched by ]
