How to find the direction of the tail in a teardrop?

Hello, I would like some help in how to find the direction of a tail in a teardrop shaped image, as in if it points north, south, east or west. Should an ellipse fitting be used? or the function 'corners'? Could someone please show me an example?

Upload your image. I'd probably use the Orientation measurement from regionprops to get the angle, assuming the tear drop is longer in the pointy direction. See my Image Segmentation Tutorial in my File Exchange. for a demo.
