Error executing External Mode while trying to connect to f28335 using JTAG

I have been successful at using the Embedded Coder C2000 in order to build and deploy a model for open-loop control of a six-phase induction machine. The next step is to implement a closed-loop control, so I need to use the ADC blocks to measure currents.
In order to establish communications between Matlab/Simulink and the f28335, I have used a JTAG with Spectrum Digital XDS100v2. This seems to work fine while Deploying to Hardware, but I am unable to use the Monitor and Tune feature, or even the Connect one. When I try to do so, the following message appears:
Error occurred while executing External Mode MEX-file 'ext_comm': Failed to connect to the target. A time-out occurred while waiting for the connection response from the target. Possible reasons for the time-out: a) The target is not switched on. b) The target is not connected to your host machine. c) The application for the model is not running on the target. You might have clicked the Stop button. If the Run button is not dimmed, click it. Otherwise, click the Build button, which downloads and runs your application on the target.
The same error pops up when I try to directly execute the model by clicking the Run button.
I have tried to follow the Set Up Serial Communication with Hardware Target page (https://es.mathworks.com/help/supportpkg/texasinstrumentsc2000/ug/set-up-the-hardware-target.html), but I find the information here insufficient. I have put the SW1 on off position, but since I am using a custom-made docking station, I do not have the JP6, JP7 or even J9 jumpers. Nevertheless, I have made sure to establish the pin assignment of Tx and Rx as GPIO 29 and 28 as requested.
How can I make the Serial Communication work with my setup? What am I configuring wrong?
Thanks in advance!
