Is it possible to create a stair plot without vertical lines in MATLAB 7.7 (R2008b)?

The ability to hide the vertical lines when using STAIRS function is not available in MATLAB 7.7 (R2008b).
To work around this issue, the attached file can be used to achieve this behavior.
One syntax exemple is :
stairs2(0:0.1:1, rand(1,10));
