Why do the axes properties of the Scope block not update when using the SET_PARAM function in Simulink 6.0 (R14)?

I use the SET_PARAM function to set the labels of my Scope block, as in the following code:

A = struct('axes1',{'TopGraph'},'axes2',{'BottomGraph'})

set_param('myExample/Scope1','AxesTitles',A);

When I view the parameters with the GET_PARAM function, the AxesTitles property appears to have been successfully changed, as shown below.

get_param('myExample/Scope1','AxesTitles')

However, when the Scope block graphs are viewed in Simulink, the AxesTitles are not changed.

This works correctly if all the commands are executed before opening the scope. If the scope is open before setting the new axes titles, then it will be updated at the start of simulation or when you update the model.
