in China

Founded in 1984, MathWorks is the leading developer of mathematical computing software. MATLAB and Simulink enable engineers and scientists worldwide to design and develop a wide range of advanced products, including autonomous and connected vehicles, aerospace flight control and avionics, telecommunications and other electronics equipment, industrial machinery and robots, and smart medical devices. The company’s guiding principle is to “do the right thing” for our staff members, customers, business partners, and communities for the long term.

MathWorks has two offices in China—Beijing and Shanghai—with more than 100 employees in total. Both offices are conveniently located near transportation links, abundant restaurants and entertainment centers, and many other urban amenities.

Office Culture

Among the teams in China are employees dedicated to commercial and educational sales, inside sales, application engineering, customer success, customer support, marketing, finance and operations, and more. You’ll get to work with a group of intelligent, energetic, and diligent colleagues in a friendly, collaborative atmosphere that promotes new ideas.

MathWorks recognizes the importance of intersectionality and the unique perspectives each of us brings to the table. As a result, we all strive to build a workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered and enjoys opportunities for personal and professional growth and development.

Breakfast or cookies are served in the office common areas, which offer a comfortable place for casual conversation. Table tennis and other fun activities are warmly welcomed by staff in both locations. When employees work remotely, they are encouraged to chat with members of other departments to ensure they remain connected.

Core Values

Core values are the essential and enduring principles of MathWorks that are integral to our success. These core values are unaffected by the trends of the day or changing market conditions.

MathWorks cultivates an enjoyable, vibrant, participatory, and rational work environment that nurtures individual growth, empowerment, and responsibility; appreciates diversity; encourages initiative and creativity; values teamwork; shares success; and rewards excellence.

We maintain curiosity toward the world, have a passion for lifelong learning, and offer a variety of programs that support learning and self-improvement. Employees have regular one-on-one meetings with their manager to identify internal and external training to acquire new skills. Employees can also participate in employee-led study groups, product training, and various projects across the company without being restricted by position or job title.

Beijing and Shanghai Spotlight

Outside the office, employees are encouraged to take advantage of all that these bustling cities have to offer.

MathWorks Beijing is close to many Fortune 500 headquarters, such as Daimler-Benz, Caterpillar, and Microsoft, as well as several technology R&D centers. Our Beijing office building sits directly atop a subway entrance, and we are only a short distance to the airport. Entrance to the Grand Wangjing Park is free and near the Beijing office, making noontime walks both convenient and enjoyable.

The Shanghai office is surrounded by dozens of notable high-tech and financial companies and the East Asia headquarters of a number of multinational banks. Employees in this location have easy access to the Bund, the Oriental Pearl, the Shanghai World Financial Center observatory deck, and the Bund tourist tunnel.
