3-D Relief Maps

Create 3-D relief maps, drape data over terrain, customize shading and lighting

A 3-D relief map illustrates terrain or other surface texture by using shading and lighting. Use these functions to create relief maps from gridded data, adjust shading and lighting, exaggerate terrain, and apply colormaps. You can also drape data over elevation maps.

Drape Data on Elevation Maps

  • Drape Data on Elevation Maps
You can drape satellite data over a grid of elevations in order to see the topography of the surface.
  • Drape Geoid Heights over Topography
This example shows how to drape the figure of the Earth, shown as an attribute (color) data grid, on topographic relief.
  • Create 3-D Displays with Raster Data
This example shows how to create a 3-D display of raster data, where the z-coordinate represents the data values. Change the viewpoint to get the appearance of depth in the map.
