read only the numerical value of a file

Hi, I have a file which is attached. I just want to read the number in it and store it in a variable. Thanks for your help.

My pleasure.

The textscan function is the easiest way to read your file. The fscanf code would be much more involved to write, and not as flexible.

Also: add this line after the textscan call:

fclose(fidi);

BTW, I am doing some other processes on my file after reading from it but I'm getting the following error,

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

I added fclose(fidi); though.

If it is opened in other processes, access to it may be locked. You probably need to close it in the other processes before opening it in MATLAB. (This could be operating system dependent. I have not encountered it myself.)

Actually it's not opened in other processes. The first place in which it's opened is the above command !

Out of curiosity, what was the problem?

I was already testing the other command, fscanf, which caused the prevention of accessing the file. Restarting MATLAB solved the issue !

Restarting MATLAB might not have been necessary, though. Running:

fclose('all');

from your Command Window could have worked.
