What Is Logic Analyzer Software?
Logic analyzer software is a virtual representation of a logic analyzer—a laboratory instrument that displays multiple, time-aligned signals—that enables engineers to visualize and measure waveforms when developing or debugging electronic devices. The Logic Analyzer app, the logic analyzer software in MATLAB® and Simulink® products, enables designers to learn about a design’s detailed behavior, either during simulations or in live testing on development boards, such as with the FPGA data capture feature. You can use logic analyzer software to visualize, measure, and inspect transitions and states over time for multichannel signals and streaming data.
With the Logic Analyzer app, you can examine system behavior by analyzing waveforms, timing information, and states in a customized window display or scope. The Logic Analyzer app displays time-aligned logic waveforms, bus transitions, and analog signals for examining the input and output characteristics of digital and mixed-signal systems. This analysis can be especially helpful when you are debugging models targeted for HDL implementation on FPGA and SoC development boards or performing ASIC prototyping in hardware.
Applications of Logic Analyzer Software
Using logic analyzer software, you can debug and analyze models, display and correlate multiple signals simultaneously, detect and analyze timing violations, trace system execution, and detect signal changes using triggers. The logic analyzer software available with HDL Verifier™, DSP System Toolbox™, or SoC Blockset™ provides several properties and features, including:
- Support for variety of input data types
- Digital and analog data display formats, including analog formatting of digital signals
- Data viewing with a variety of radices: binary, hex, octal, and signed/unsigned decimal for fixed point
- Sample time control
- Timing cursors
- Time span and offset
- Channel font size and color
